Water loss on networks tends to be highest during the winter months when freezing conditions lead to bursts on unprotected meters and shallow pipes and valves. Group water schemes are also affected during drought and near-drought conditions when demand rises at a time when raw water sources are under pressure.
The NFGWS has produced the following advice notes for group water schemes and consumers on how to be winter-ready and drought-ready.
A water conservation toolkit is also available for group water schemes here. This includes advice on how to be best prepared for any issues that may occur, along with draft communication materials that can be used by individual GWSs or in collaboration with neighbouring schemes.
