Recent webinar presentations by the National Federation of Group Water Schemes (NFGWS) staff as part of the Teagasc sustainable agriculture ‘Signpost Series’ are now available to view on YouTube.
Patrick McCabe and Seán Corrigan gave presentations on aspects of the Federation’s Drinking Water Source Protection Pilot Project – Phase 2. Besides describing the development of projects in Counties Monaghan and Roscommon, the presentations included details of what has been accomplished to date.
Striking a balance between explaining the science and thought processes behind the source protection pilot project, the webinar presentations focused on the importance of practical engagement with the farming community and wider rural population.
Patrick also discussed the concept of smart buffer zones, tailored to the specific source protection needs of a site. This idea was highlighted in the Irish Farmers Journal’s coverage of the webinar, in a piece which can be found in the 14 January edition of the paper and on their website here.
The presentations were followed by a very interesting Q&A discussion that is included in the YouTube video. You can watch the full webinar below:
Previous instalments of the ‘Signpost Series’ – many of which are relevant to the rural water services sector - are also available on the Teagasc YouTube page.
Details about upcoming webinars in the series can be found on the Teagasc website here.
