Rural Water News Magazine – Autumn 2022

Rural Water News Magazine Autumn 2022

The Autumn 2022 edition of Rural Water News is available to read online. This issue includes extensive coverage of September’s Rural Water Services Conference, with particular focus on the transposition process of the recast Drinking Water Directive into Irish legislation.

It also features coverage of the recently published research report on the intangible assets of the group water sector. Jointly authored by the DCU Water Institute and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), the report shines a light on the social and environmental contribution of group water schemes to local communities, which can be difficult to value in comparison to more obvious infrastructural assets.

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH) has reassured group water schemes that it will continue to support the sector in dealing with the impacts of the energy crisis. Other topics also covered in this edition are the new charging rates for publicly sourced group water schemes, the GWS Excellence Awards, and the ongoing NFGWS source protection and biodiversity enhancement & climate action projects.
