Quick Guide to the Capital Funding Programme 2027-2029 Application Process

On 27 July 2026, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage launched the Capital Funding Programme for the Rural Water Sector (CFP for RWS) 2027-2029. The programme provides for capital investment in rural water infrastructure and services through eight funding measures. Local authorities (LAs) have been invited to submit applications for funding in partnership with group water schemes (GWSs) and other eligible applicants.

The Framework for the Capital Funding Programme for the Rural Water Sector 2027-2029, published by the Department, sets out the policy context, objectives and delivery arrangements for the programme. The NFGWS has produced a summary document for GWSs on the application process. This document is not intended to replace the framework itself. Rather, it provides a summary of the key points and important considerations for GWSs wishing to apply for funding under the programme.

The document can be read here: Capital Funding Programme for the Rural Water Sector 2027-2029 - A Quick Guide to the Application Process

GWSs considering an application are encouraged to review the guide alongside the full Framework document and engage with their local authority as early as possible.
