After much delay, the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme (MARWP) 2019 - 2021 was announced in October 2019 by the then Minister Eoghan Murphy TD. Allocations totalling over €54 million have been made for 621 projects across 25 counties. The announcement also included detailed allocations for 2019 projects, but given the lateness of the announcement, it is likely that much of this work will have to be completed in 2020. Chairperson of the NFGWS, Vincent Farrelly welcomed the announcement and encouraged schemes to complete as much work as possible this year stating ‘the true rollover nature of the programme will now be tested and I would encourage the Department of Housing Planning and Local Government and local authorities to be a flexible as possible with schemes for the duration of the programme’.
