Legislation allowing for virtual AGMS extended until end of 2021

The Government has extended legislation that allows for virtual AGMs, SGMs and creditor’s meetings until 31 December 2021.

Introduced in late August last year, the temporary amendments to the Companies Act has allowed organisations such as group water schemes to host General Meetings online through electronic communication platforms. This has proved extremely successful for the hosting of AGMs and special meetings to consider potential rationalisations/amalgamations with neighbouring schemes etc.

The NFGWS has been supporting schemes in hosting these virtual meetings and local development officers will continue to be available to give assistance. Any scheme yet to hold its AGM should contact the NFGWS immediately.

The Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS) has also published an extensive guide on how to set up online meetings, addressing issues that might easily be overlooked, such as using Zoom poll functions to facilitate any voting that may be required.
